On the subject of failure Chilean-French filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky once said, “between doing and not doing you always have to do.”

Failure is part of life. We can try to escape it but will be unsuccessful. At some point in our lives we fail. I’ve failed many times and even then I am not immune to it. I think about potentially failing or making a mistake, especially when I’m about to make a radical lifestyle change such as relocating to another country with a different culture and lifestyle. There are people with the belief that relocating from Canada to a South American country is a ridiculous idea and I must admit that at times I find myself thinking along the same lines, but then I come to my senses (others would say to my insanity). So what if I fail? I come back and start all over again but at least I’ll have the experience and I won’t live my life regretting never giving it a try.
I’m at the point in my life where I don’t want to give up on my goals and I want to confront my fear of failure and of making wrong decisions. We cannot allow our fear of failure to stop us from trying new things and to keep us from taking a leap of faith. If we do, we will never follow through our goals and dreams. I’m certain that fear is a disease, an imperfection of the human soul and that’s why we should not make a decision out of fear. I cannot let fear be the reason to stay where I currently live, when the deepest part of me is telling me that this is not where I belong.
Don’t let fear keep you from traveling and from experiencing the rich and vast cultures out there or even discovering new ones. Christopher Columbus is a great example. His fears were the fear of the unknown and of falling off the earth because back then they thought they earth was flat. On the subject of courage he said:
“You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.”
Allow yourself to be wrong. Only then will you be able to know what you want, what you need, and what you are capable of.

What’s keeping you from traveling?
