Trying a new Chinese restaurant in Chinatown is one of the most overwhelming tasks I can think of undertaking. There are just so many choices, ranging from overpriced and overfilled, greasy and sweaty tasting, and really horrible service. King’s Noodle restaurant, however, isn’t one of these.

Given the name of the restaurant, it’s pretty obvious what they are famous for. Noodles and roasted meats are their specialty but their menu also showcases a great variety of rice and congee dishes as well as the occasional dim sum item.

King’s Noodle is definitely one of my favourite cheap eats in Chinatown – right after The Dumpling House – and an excellent choice for some comfort food. This place does get pretty busy, especially around lunch time and in the evening. If you happen to be eating solo, be ready to be sat at a large community table (what I like to call “the kids table”). I do think that their service can be a lot friendlier but they make it up by being efficient and fast.

If you look at their menu, the items are quite inexpensive and they don’t skimp on portion sizes. They do not accept credit or debit cards so do show up with cash.

What I ordered:

Beef Tripe Noodle in soup – $4.15

The beef tripe noodle in soup is authentic and it arrive piping hot, so they are great on a winter evening or on a chilly autumn day. The noodles were cooked to perfection; had a firm bite and springy texture with just the right bounce.

Rice with Barbecued Duck – $5.15

The BBQ duck is delicious and succulent. Perfectly crisp skin and tender duck meat.

King’s Noodle restaurant offers a plentiful menu without being overly ambitious and diluting the quality.

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will be returning to try other noodle dishes, and without a doubt, the roasted pork.
