Every winter, the flock of snowbirds heading to Cuba for the winter grows slightly, as the idea of leaving behind the ice and snow in favor of beaches, sun, and the sea appeals to more and more Canadians, and very soon to even more U.S. Americans. Cuba is very close to opening its doors to U.S. American citizens, and this means that the best beaches in Cuba will be saturated with even more tourists in the years to come.
In late December I decided to make a trip to Varadero for a second time (and my fifth time to Cuba in general), only this time it would be over New Year’s day. My final choice for an all-inclusive resort came down to Breezes Bella Costa. I booked my entire trip 5 months in advanced and this gave me the most affordable price for a 4 star resort in Varadero over the holiday season.
What can I say! I was excited upon my arrival. The customs process at the airport was flawless, quick, and efficient. Soon after we were outside the airport and on our way to Breezes Bella Costa, which is only a half-hour ride from Juan Gualberto Gómez Airport.
Breezes Bella Costa is a well-known resort in the popular resort town of Varadero, located just two hours from Havana. It over looks one of the most colourful segments of a beach that’s considered one of the best in the Caribbean. It’s surrounded by tropical gardens and open spaces that guarantee a sense of peace and relaxation.
Varadero Beach is the most popular beach in the island. Having more than 20 kilometers of beaches, the chief Cuban seaside resort and one of the best known worldwide, has exceptional natural features for the visitors’ enjoyment. Varadero beaches shallowness allows swimmers to go several meters into the sea and have a good time at the wide sandbanks.
The seabed can be sharply seen through its warm crystal-clear waters. Varadero also stands out for its fine white sand of calcareous origin covering the length of the shore. Being a peninsula it has varied and luxuriant flora and fauna spread out among nearly 10 virgin islets, sea bottoms with more than 40 species of coral, a range of fish, lobsters, shrimps, crabs, 70 kinds of mollusks and charming dolphins that can sometimes be seen from the shore or riding a catamaran.
Breezes Bella Costa has a Kids Club for children between the ages of four and thirteen. Children will have the time of their lives with supervised games and activities as well as their own pool. There are also a variety of included land and water sports.
If you’re a golfer, you definitely want to stay here. The resort is located right next to the Varadero Golf Club, a special attraction for professional or amateur golfers.
The resort has an outdoor pool and 2 jacuzzi. There are also plenty of palapas, sun shelters, and lounge chairs both at the beach and pool area.
I mentioned in my previous post that you should definitely venture into the town of Varadero during your stay. There you will be able to find many restaurants and shopping outlets. You can walk to the town but it will take you about 45 minutes to get to the main area, so why not just take a taxi from the hotel? A regular taxi will cost you between $10 and $15 Cuban dollars, and a ride in a fancy oldtimer taxi will cost you about $20 Cuban dollars.
In all honesty I’ve never been a big fan of the night entertainment offered at most resorts, but the live shows offered at Breezes Bella Costa were excellent! They have a different theme every night and the dancers and singers are very talented.
Cuba is different than the other Caribbean countries since it is a communist country but they also enjoy free health care and education. They are slowly switching to a market society. This means the hotel staff usually have a better education then you do. Most can read and write three or four languages.
Now more than ever the dream of a memorable vacation is at your fingertips through the Breezes Bella Costa resort, leaning out excellent beaches, food, and entertainment which are conceived as a formula of pleasure for the senses minute by minute. Cheers!
