Imagine hailing for a cab in downtown Toronto, and suddenly a classic Buick pulls up. Would you get in? I definitely would! In fact, some people experienced this when Transat Holidays organized an advert to promote Cuba as a travel destination. The stunt – rightfully called “El Taxi Loco” – involved a Cuban taxi driving around the streets of Toronto, inviting people to live the Cuban experience through a ride. But this wasn’t your regular taxi ride. Passengers experienced funny situations that they could have lived in Cuba: sharing their taxi with other people, dancing and singing. Not only that but every person that accepted the ride won a week vacation package to Cuba! I would have been thrilled!
You see, I love Cuba and have traveled to Havana, Holguin, Varadero, and Cayo Coco. I love it so much that I will be visiting for my fifth time at the end of December and will be spending New Years’ at Breezes Varadero.
Cuba is a country that arouses a lot of curiosity. Year after year, Cuba is among the favorite Southern destinations of Canadians. What’s not to like about Cuba? Idyllic beaches, rich culture, and fascinating history.
Travelling to Cuba is an adventure. Every city is fascinating; its nature, beautiful; history, very particular; its people, all special. Every time I visit Cuba I come back with a different experience. Some experiences have left me shocked while others left me fascinated. I have visited many places that leave me feeling nostalgic, but if there is a country that makes me feel something deep, going even beyond melancholy, that’s Cuba.
Cuba is a true wonder of a world, an island paradise caught in a time warp where American cars from the 50s’ and 60s’ still rule the roads. The country has been isolated from the western world for almost five centuries since Fidel Castro communist regime took over Cuba. Cuba is fast changing today, opening up its shores to the modern world, and now may be the best time for holidays in Cuba to see and experience the unique life of this island.
